Innovative, sustainable, future-oriented

Global market leader from Meppen

The Meppen site stands for high-quality synthetic resins, strong teams, and modern production expertise. By integrating the Resins & Functional Materials business unit, Covestro has specifically expanded its portfolio and further strengthened its position as a leading global supplier.

Covestro is strengthening its outstanding position in Germany – including at the Meppen site. The company has become a key player in the field of high-quality synthetic resins here and is one of the world's leading suppliers in this market segment.

This expansion was made possible by the acquisition of the Resins & Functional Materials (RFM) business unit from Royal DSM. The acquisition has significantly expanded Covestro's portfolio in the synthetic resin sector and at the same time laid the foundation for a successful future. Around 150 employees in Meppen ensure smooth operation on the various production lines and often make a decisive contribution with their daily work.

The site in Meppen has been committed to sustainable and efficient production for more than 65 years. In the long term, the team wants to work on avoiding waste and reusing more products. This approach is based on the many creative solutions developed by the employees themselves. They make a significant contribution to value creation. The goal is to be a little better every day. With this attitude, Covestro in Meppen aims to be one of the industry's flagship sites.

The state-of-the-art systems primarily produce high-quality synthetic resins. They are used in the paints, coatings and plastics industries, among others. The product portfolio now consists of more than 200 products.

The multifaceted innovations developed by Covestro are manufactured for a wide range of applications. While the solventborne polyesters provide the basis for coating metal plates and cans, the waterborne polyurethane dispersions are the basis for the production of facade and dispersion wall paints. In addition, the team from Meppen is launching other specialties on the market—for example, raw materials for the printing industry and an adhesive that makes it possible to reuse carpets and mattresses.

That is why respect, honesty, team spirit, and passion are so important at the site. This also brings the mission in Meppen to life. Working together to shape the future and getting a little better every day!

The family environment is therefore the foundation for the ongoing success story. Through continuous improvements and a unique “can-do” mentality, the team is setting new standards in the chemical industry. All employees can play a key role in continuing the success story at the Meppen site.

Through proactive action and forward-looking investments, the local facilities comply with the safety requirements of the authorities at all times.

Many employees spend their breaks in the natural garden on the company premises.

Covestro continues to focus on climate-friendly and resource-conserving production. With its innovative synthetic resins, the team is making a contribution to improving the sustainability performance of its customers a little bit more every day. Nothing is expected to change in this regard in the future.

Even more! Covestro is aiming for operational climate neutrality by 2035. By then, net-zero emissions from our own production (Scope 1) and from purchased energy (Scope 2) are to be achieved. Greenhouse gas emissions upstream and downstream in the value chain (Scope 3) are also to be reduced by ten million tons of CO₂ (minus 30 percent compared to 2021) by 2035 – in the long term, Covestro is aiming for climate neutrality for Scope 3 emissions by 2050.
